3 New Modules Released at Once in 2026?

September 14, 2026
Hakai Labs New Modules 2026

Yep! At Knobcon 2026, we released the production versions of 3 of our new modules.

DEFCON 2 Emergency Signal Router - a dual path signal switcher with a big guarded toggle, silent CMOS switching, and insert loops on each path.

DEFCON 2 Satellite CV Controlled Signal Router - the CV controlled version of DEFCON 2, daisy chains off the back for unlimited routing.

Dead Flip Flipper Button Interface - two real pinball flipper buttons turned into a gate output interface with three modes.

Thank you everyone that came out to Knobcon to chat with us! For more information on the new modules, please check out our product section here.

Turbocharger Firmware Is Now Open Source!

July 27, 2026
Hakai Labs Turbocharger firmware open sourced - ATtiny804 source code released under the MIT license

Every unit runs an ATtiny804 doing three jobs: generate the RPM clock, set the pulse width, and throw detonation glitches on top. That last part is where all the fun is, and it's now yours to read, break, hack and rewrite.

MIT licensed. Full pinout and flash instructions on GitHub. You need a UPDI programmer and megaTinyCore, that's it.

If you come up with something more awesome than what I shipped, I am very excited to hear it!

FIRMWARE v3.1 — THE ENGINE HAS BEEN REBUILT

May 6, 2026
Hakai Labs Turbocharger Firmware v3.1 Update - 1v/oct tracking on RPM CV Input

Turbocharger got dragged back to the shop, we gutted the core and rebuilt it around something that honestly should've shipped on day one... 1v/oct tracking on the RPM CV Input.

This means you can now pitch-track your switching speed to your sequencer or keyboard. Run your oscillators into Inputs A and B, patch your CV sequence into RPM CV, and let Turbocharger become a melodic glitch engine that actually follows your music. The chaos is now tonal.

On top of that, we pushed through significant ADC conversion improvements for faster digital reads on all CV inputs.

Firmware update available now at hakailabs.com/turbocharger.
Free for all Turbocharger owners and hackers with binary decompilation skills.

Turbocharger Officially Launched!

Color Vision Deficiency LEDs (CVD LEDs) Are Here!

June 18, 2024
Hakai Labs Color Vision Deficiency LED (CVD LED) - Red and teal bi-color LED designed for accessibility in eurorack modules

Over the many years of electronic music instruments it has become a tradition to use LEDs to show signal status, signal path, voltage, etc. As these instruments advanced, the industry standard was to use red and green to indicate negative and positive voltages. If you are a red/green color deficient individual, you probably noticed a slight issue with this. About 10% of the world's population has some level of reg/green color deficiency. This may not seem like a huge number, but it definitely affects our small community. Some manufacturers of Eurorack modules have already begun using red/blue LEDs for these signals, which is awesome. We decided to take this a step further and figure out a good wavelength of light that looks like greenish to non-color deficient people, but still far enough away from green to separate it from red. This is where we came up with the CVD LED. It still qualifies as red/green, but it is more of a red/teal. We tested with numerous CVD individuals to get this just right. Well, they are here and in stock now!

Check out the new CVD LED here and be sure to also take a peek at the data sheet as well. We have outlined the wavelengths of each color channel along with all the electrical specifications.

Also, don't forget about the new Hakai Labs KiCad library with symbols, footprints, and 3D models of our parts.
